Sojji, Bajji , Kaaram, Sweet, Coffee, Tea..

Let me restart 'Meyyaram' from the temp shut down. one day me and vijay were talking about something and the topic diverted to 'pen paarkum padalam' . One of his friend is ready for marriage and his parents arranged this ever great custom (kashtam). Mr. Vijay took the role of Mr. Vivek accompanying the hero for the sight seeing. He couldn't avoid that. Both were in the same frequency that this shouldn't have happened and we were discussing how embarrassing it would be for the girl. Later, I was thinking at what base this custom would have born. This could well be the reason. May be at those years, most of the time girls stick to home, those girls were denied the opportunity of hanging out like our millennium girls. Thus born this custom, it's a kind of intro to the people before wedlock. Fair enough.

But what's the need for this at 2006. Why our elders still arrange for this and why our boys still agree to this and why our girls still giving in to this. Alternative always exists. we are not against arranged marriage. It would make more sense, once if the elders finish the first stage talk, and if the boy and the girl are happy with other's photos and want to proceed further, can arrange a meeting somewhere relaxed. If the girl doesn't care about the boy's appearance ( I dont think there is anybody nowadays ), the boy can always see her somewhere without her knowledge. obviously, she comes out of her home everyday. vice versa (I am sure there is no boy who doesn't want to see the girl before anything happens) .

Arguably there is still an uneasy factor there. Say if the girl doesn't like the boy or vice versa when they meet, and if the proposal end there, one can rise the question how many times this relaxed meeting would take place. Unfortunately, this cant be avoided in an arranged marriage, unless someone wants to go ahead compromising. But this factor is still present in the old custom. Do anybody say NO.

The good thing about this relaxed meeting between the only two is, there is no sojji - bajji samachaaram, and no periyavangaluku namaskaaram panikarthu. According to me, It's horrible to namaskaaram to somebody you dont know. Age factor only doesn't gain you that respect, it's your thoughts. How a strange girl know your weightage in thoughts. simply for the reason, Premananda is above 50 years old. so what...

guys, your comments are welcome and more than welcome is your suggestions to avoid this abuse against girls ..oo.. I sounded strong. Why not ?

You sounded too right and damn right. This whole pen parkum padalam was brought later into our culture..Ages before it was swayamvaram for princesses (I dont know what other women did) but I believe in olden days and even now in many tribal places men had to win over a girl by showing some of his talents..and exhibit his valour..Todays girls look for a tall handsome man with a visa ready to take them all over the world at the same time do share all the work at home..I dont think you can find that out in a few seconds..Or is there a way..hmm..So forget this idea..

Anyway these days we girls do meet men/boys right from day one at school and I really believe women have lotsa friends who are boys and know well about them. There is going to be no understanding by seeing some boy for few minutes and eating sojji bajji at home...even spending a day with him.

A valid argument from elders would be - anyways you dont know what u are getting into whether u do orthodox type or a love marriage so why not follow custom. But I believe in "throwing away text scriptures and even customs" that are not suited for today. This is just one of it.

To implement certain things even though there are lotsa youth today with many revolutionary ideas..mostly I ve seen including myself we dont do what we think. We do what we are told..One of my friends wants to get married in a simple way in a temple not demanding money from his brides parents..but till today he is not married..the brides parents doubt him and think he might be a crook....

If srikanth and vijay and others want to do this way...I give full support and I can stand up for you!

if you want to throw the pen parkum padalam you can make it like a casual meeting..One of my friends met the girl in the temple but mostly parents suggest they will be around watching you...enna ideanu theriyalai.. So in this case you have added one more level of confusion to the existing process..

Anyways All these customs sound ridiculous to me. Most of marriages that happen in the customary way succeed in India..because both of the parties involved have some tolerance from day 1 for the other..Contrary to the case..Love marriages and marriages between people who can think otherwise..have lotsa things that go wrong in India....because Indian parents do not allow you to understand the pain in love...and they dont give you time to find the right person....What I mean is..Either entirely go with them or totally find a girl that understand you well and go in that way..Anything in between would be a loose loose..

Everyone acts so different if you meet with them for a day..

But throwing this pen padalam and making it easier for the girls is a wonderful idea! Even if one of you could do it I would cheer!
