Puzzle section

By the way all the problems in the previous puzzle post was answered except one. Smith paid Forty five....How is this possible?
The answer to this is tricky - Forty is the name of a Person (I have capitalized F)
These is similar to a situational puzzle - you are given a situation then you must ask questions on deriving at the answers. We will have more of this later.

I have two puzzles in this round. Rules for solving all puzzles from now on:
If you can solve them - in the comments section say that you know how to solve. If you are in the process of solving and have questions post them. Do not post the answer so that it gives a chance for everyone to solve. The very first person who says he knows how to solve will actually solve it after 5 days in no one else replies. If his answer is wrong..it passes to the next who said he knew the answer. (5 days total to solve a puzzle and winner gets a Gold Star)

Note: These puzzles have been copied lifted from books with names changed...not my creations. Do not google for answers. Have fun.

An easy one first:
You need to bring exactly 4 litres of water with only a 5 jar and a 3 unit jar. How?
(Madraslai irukaravanga ithai easya solve panniduvanga)

This is hard - There are assumptions but mathematically we can arrive at the answer(Kona buthi irukaravangalai naan convince panratha illai)

A man walks into a restaurant, orders a coffee, and starts chatting with the
waiter. After a while, he learns that the waiter has three
children. "How old are your kids?" he asks. "Well," replies the
waiter, "the product of their ages is 72." The man thinks for a
moment and then says, "that's not enough information." "All right,"
continues the waiter, "if you go outside and look at the building
number posted over the door to the restaurant, you'll see the sum of the
ages." The man steps outside, and after a few moments he reenters and
declares, "Still not enough!" The waiter smiles and says, "My
youngest just loves mango ice cream."

Then how old are they?
(Assumption I did for you: Age is not a fraction)

Puzzle with words: Take the name Eli and add three letters in front of it. Add the same three letters in reverse order after it to complete a familiar two-word phrase in nine letters. What is it?
Hint: The answer is something this puzzle has.

Seri naan response potudaren. Friday acchu.
fill 5 unit. pour 5 unit into 3 unit. empty 3 unit. pour 5 unit into 3 unit.
fill 5 unit. pour 5 unit into 3 unit. We got now 4 units in the 5 unit jar. This is what we wanted.

What steps could we avoid if the jar was transparent - say a glass jar? Any ideas?

/////////////

First, determine all the ways that three ages can multiply together to get 72:

72 1 1
36 2 1
24 3 1
18 4 1
18 2 2
12 6 1
12 3 2
9 4 2
9 8 1
8 3 3
6 6 2
6 4 3

As the man says, that's not enough information; there are many possibilities.
So the waiter tells him where to find the sum of the ages--the man now knows the sum even though we don't. Yet he still insists that there isn't enough info. This must mean that there are two permutations with the same sum;
otherwise the man could have easily deduced the ages.

The only pair of permutations with the same sum are 8 3 3 and 6 6 2, which both add up to 14 (the reataurant's address). Now the waiter mentions his "youngest"--telling us that there is one child who is younger than the other
two. This is impossible with 8 3 3--there are two 3 year olds. Therefore the ages of the children are 6, 6, and 2.
