Puzzlers

One more puzzle added:
I have 1000 rupees and 10 wallets.
How much money should I put in wach wallet..So that if someone asks me for say X amount
I should be able to give it to them without opening the wallets (I will be say handing over unopened wallets to them) and it should be exactly the money they wanted..say 11 rupees..or 27Rs, 567Rs....any amount upto a 1000 Rs

Smith paid Forty five dollars for a horse and ended up with a profit of three dollars. Smith had bought the horse for two dollars. How is this possible?

What is the easiest and fastest way to multiple a number by 7 . Computer science and Math experts think how to represent 7 in binary format?? Can you write an algorithm for it?Others just give your guesses..

what is the Sieve of Eratosthenes way to find (small) prime numbers?

Which is the Oldest surviving text? How old is it?

If I keep posting coding questions I guess I would not get a quick response..So let me ask some logic puzzles that I have come across that are cute.

There is a gold bar with 7 segments..(Imagine like a nestle chocolate bar). You have agreed to pay the salary of ONE gold bar segment at the end of EACH day to a worker. He workd for seven days. One catch though - you are allowed ONLY TWO cuts to the gold bar. How will you pay this man? Think out of the box..assume somethings..

There is a bridge that needs to be crosses by 4 people and there is ONLY ONE flashlight. You need a flashlight if you need to walk across the bridge. The bridge is going to fall down in 17 minutes. ONLY two people can walk on the bridge at any point of time ..The bridge cannot at hold any more than 2 persons.

A can walk across the bridge in 1 minute
..B can walk in 2 minutes
C can walk in 5
D can walk in 10 minutes.

How will you cross the bridge in 17 seconds?? There is definitely an answer..Think smart ..and think all combinations..

Answers please???
