Tamil translation services
Yesterday Siva and myself were translating a text for a non profit group from English to Tamil. It was fun to translate many common terms that we use..when it came to medical terms there was more confusion as to "tamizhakkam thevaya illaiya"
For example if you want to say "Ungalukku cancer irukannu pakka innum niraiya tests pannanum" if your character say in an AD said "Ungalukku putrru noi irukathannu parka niraiya sothanaigal seyyanum" - Which of these is more understandable by the rural and urban people. Similarly we had to translate biopsy. It got more interesting after that - we had to look at different lexicons and dictionaries on the web..but still could not find a medical dictionary.
Well..I have always found that in tamil medium government schools they teach "Kari Amila Vayu" the word for carbon di oxide and there are tamizhakkams for many such science words. Science is universal. Should these kids suffer when they come out of college for if they want to do further education they "have to relearn" all the science they learned. (If you want tamizhakkam for everything we need to add these words right when they are being invented and make the entire schools of tamilnadu to learn the words..publish in those words..which would never happen)A better idea would be to add the word as it is in Tamil and extend the language. Tamil Valaranumna ithai seyyalam.. So biopsy will be added as piopsy in tamil. Thats how the Japanese also have control of the software industry. Chumma Tamizhakkam panrennu ippadi kuzhappam seyya koodathu. My opinion. Again comments welcome.
By the way check out the dictionaries that we hit upon on an university site. Pretty cool

I hit upon the word meyyaram here..Ennaku kandippa inthanoda artham theriyathu..
avan first or bestnu potrukan..Meyyalumeva...therila pa..If you would like to do more research on tamil words - romba azhagana tamil words..it would be right now in this space. I would invite our family elders also to join the fun.
